Borrowed Words in Sinama

The Sama traversed Southeast Asia long before its political boundaries were set. In doing so they came in contact with many languages of which they both borrowed and influenced. We are interested in learning how Sinama relates with some major world languages and also historically significant languages. For instance much religious terminology is borrowed from Arabic but is also complemented from religious terms that originate from Sanskrit. Also some Sinama words are impacted by trade such as those borrowed from Chinese and from Tamil. There are other borrowings from Malay, from Persian, from Spanish, and from English. We ask for help from the Sama and research community to better understand relationships between spoken Sinama and languages that it has borrowed from in the past.
